Prints have arrived | Le stampe sono arrivate

🇬🇧 Yesterday the copies printed by PressUP arrived at my house. Since I couldn’t take care of them myself, I left them in the loving care of my sister, who had the patience to open the parcel and send me some photos, which you can now see.

The expected arrival date was 3 May, so the parcel arrived three days early. There should be 130 copies, but printers have been known to print a few more copies to replace any printing errors (and then leave them with you, otherwise they would have to throw them away). As soon as I get my hands on the parcel (unfortunately, I’ll have to wait a little longer), I’ll check the number of copies, to see if there are really 130 or a few more.

The quality of the printed matter looks good from the photos. The paper is a 115gsm matt coated paper, FSC certified. What I can see is that the ink on the back page seeps out a little. Experts tell me that, at this level, this is not a problem but, if I were to print something like this again, I would try increasing the weight a little to minimise or eliminate the problem. By the way, keep in mind that what looks like black ink is actually a very dark green (#20333c to be precise). In short, I suppose it would have been a bit worse with full black: something to bear in mind for future prints.

What’s next? What’s the next step? Well, I have already contacted the libraries for the compulsory legal deposit: the Nazionale in Rome, the Nazionale in Florence, the Braidense in Milan and the Statale in Cremona. Since I have printed less than 200 copies, I should deposit only one copy at the Nazionale in Florence and one at the Braidense in Milan. However, I have decided that I will also send a copy as a donation to the Nazionale in Rome and the Statale in Cremona, who have already confirmed to me by phone and e-mail that they accept this type of donation.

But I will tell you more about this in the future.

🇮🇹 Ieri sono arrivate a casa mia le copie stampate da PressUP. Non potendomene occupare in prima persona, le ho lasciate alle amorevoli attenzioni di mia sorella, che ha avuto la pazienza di aprire il pacco e di mandarmi alcune foto, che ora potete vedere anche voi.

La data di arrivo prevista era il 3 maggio, quindi il pacco è arrivato con tre giorni di anticipo. Le copie dovrebbero essere 130, ma si sa che, a volte, i tipografi stampano qualche copia di più per sostituire eventuali errori di stampa (e poi te le lasciano, se no dovrebbero buttarle). Appena metterò le mani sul pacco (purtroppo dovrò ancora aspettare un po’), provvederò a controllare anche il loro numero, per sapere se sono proprio centotrenta o qualcuna di più.

La qualità dello stampato, dalle foto, sembra buona. La carta è una patinata opaca da 115 g/m² certificata FSC. Quello che posso vedere è che l’inchiostro della pagina sul retro filtra un po’. Gli esperti mi dicono che, a questi livelli, non è un problema ma, dovessi ancora stampare qualcosa di simile, proverei ad aumentare un po’ la grammatura per minimizzare o annullare il problema. Tra l’altro, tenete conto che quello che sembra inchiostro nero è in realtà un verde molto scuro (per la precisione #20333c). Insomma, suppongo che col nero pieno sarebbe stato un po’ peggio: una cosa da tenere da conto nelle prossime stampe.

E adesso? Qual è il prossimo passo? Be’, ho già sentito le biblioteche per il deposito legale obbligatorio: la Nazionale di Roma, la Nazionale di Firenze, la Braidense di Milano e la Statale di Cremona. Siccome ho stampato meno di 200 copie, dovrei depositare soltanto una copia alla Nazionale di Firenze e una alla Braidense di Milano. Tuttavia, ho deciso che manderò anche una copia come donazione alla Nazionale di Roma e alla Statale di Cremona, che mi hanno già confermato per telefono e per e-mail che accettano questo tipo di donazioni.
